Transportation plays a vital role in our waste recycling process. The drivers have been trained for safe and defensive driving while transporting hazardous waste. The transportation of waste from the waste generators’ premises, back to our safe storage at Excelbond in a safe, reliable and cost-effective manner is a vital component of the transportation process. Excelbond has been transporting the waste since 1989. Our friendly and helpful drivers are dedicated to provide and assist our waste generators, to complete the process more efficiently and in a clean manner.
Waste Card System
There are strict rules governing the transportation of dangerous goods for all parties to adhere to. One of the requirements is the necessity of carrying a “safety card” on the transporting vehicle. The purpose of the safety card is to provide the driver with information on the goods being transported. These include:- |
| |
A precise description of the goods |
The dangers related to the goods |
Personal protection when handling the goods |
What to do in case of an accident |
Handling of minor spillage
Fire |
First aid |
| |
| Clause 11 of the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations, 1989, states:- |
| |
Every waste generator shall provide information in accordance with the Seventh Schedule in respect of each category of scheduled waste to be delivered to the contractor and shall give the schedule to the contractor upon delivery of the waste to him |
The waste generator shall inform the contractor of the purpose and use of the Seventh Schedule:- |
| |
| |
Section A – Properties: E.g. D.O.E. code, physical properties, origin & risks |
Section B – Handling: E.g. Personal protection equipment, procedures & precautions in handling, packaging, transportation and storage |
Section C – Spills or leaks causing personal injury |
Section D – Spills or leaks causing material damage |
| |
| In order for waste generators to fulfil these requirements, Excelbond committee had discussed, improved and consulted the experts when creating the “Waste Card”. The appropriate cards will be given to waste generators when they provide Excelbond with the waste code/category. |
